Asbestos is the single greatest cause of work-related deaths in the UK. It was extensively used as a building material in the UK from the 1950s through to the mid-1980s. It was used for a variety of purposes and was ideal for fireproofing and insulation.
Any building built before the year 2000 (houses, factories, offices, schools, hospitals etc) can contain asbestos.
This course is intended for people whose work may bring them into contact with asbestos, from shop fitters to electricians, from plumbers to decorators. It is also suitable for duty holders looking to gain a basic overview of their asbestos responsibilities.
The Asbestos Awareness course is aimed as an awareness session for those workers who may come into contact with asbestos as part of their work, or those duty holders requiring a basic overview. It is not intended and is not suitable for those working on asbestos removal.
